In celebration of The Substation’s 21st anniversary on 16 September 2011, several alumni from The Substation’s Associate Artist Scheme (2002-2010) will present a multi-disciplinary project to celebrate 21 years of process and experimentation at The Substation. Inspired by Kuo Pao Kun’s iconic The Silly Little Girl and the Funny Old Tree, the project is a collaborative rereading and reinterpretation of the original text. The list of collaborators include filmmaker Sherman Ong, music artist Bani Haykal, writer Verena Tay, performers Raka Maitra, Beverly Yuen, Jacklyn Kuah, and Vincent Chia, interdisciplinary artists Elizabeth De Roza and Rizman Putra.

About andyyangsookit
An artist, illustrator and father all rolled into one, Andy Yang has been fervently experimenting with different mediums since 2001. The visual impact of his works derives from his expressive techniques of mixing mediums and clashing bold colours. They also escape the formal confines of the canvas and extend into the frames, highlighting the capriciousness of his thought process.
It's his need for exploring his personal style that has led Andy to push his craft progressively. Influenced by the exuberance of everyday life, there is no one underlying theme but rather a gamut of many, often tinged with irony, humor and even rebellion.
Andy has had several well received exhibitions in Singapore over the years, from two solo shows at The Asylum, Singapore ("Attachments") to group exhibitions ("Le Monde est A Nous") at Night + Day Gallery in December 2007. His affinity for graphical narratives has also informed his collaborations with Tiger Translate, PageOne The Bookshop and TRUST Museum (online exhibition). Another joint arts event organised in 2008 by Night + Day gallery for iON@Orchard had Andy exhibit his work alongside fellow artists on the enclosed art installation along the busy Orchard Road. Recent events include a joint exhibition "Art Fare" organised by Project Midas held at House@Dempsey Hill showcasing his large format oil and acrylic paintings.
